Spring rolls to celebrate an autumn birthday!
Made this last night! It's much easier than I would have imagined. Instead of the recommended rice, we used Black Thai Rice from Phipps Country Store in Pescadero (650.879.1032). It's what we had on hand.
If you're taking a trip to Phipps in Pescadero, be sure to visit Harley Farms for goat cheese tasting and, perhaps, a tour.
Full recipe here.
Issues with Newsprint Ink?
I am the proverbial canary in the coal mine.
The various allergies, many of which are environmental, were a mystery until visiting several specialists. Newspaper ink was at the top of a long list. Being aware of and avoiding those things to which I was sensitive made a huge difference.
As a result, I've joyfully joined the ranks of readers of online subscriptions AND I've found several articles I think you'll enjoy. When I want a more leisurely read, I print pages at home without the newsprint ink issues.
I'll be releasing my favorites over the course of the next few weeks.
Enjoy!
JOY-FILLED Days!
Heartwarming, hopeful and fun!
Perhaps what we all need right now is a break from reality. A diversion.
The following videos are a perfect transition, perhaps, from recent posts. Living life in a way that's unique to who we are and what we love doing. Thank you, Lee, for modeling how this can happen when we passionately pursue our interests and fully utilize the talents given us.
Explanation: What are these humans doing? Dancing. Many humans on Earth exhibit periods of happiness, and one method of displaying happiness is dancing. Happiness and dancing transcend political boundaries and occur in practically every human society. Above, Matt Harding traveled through many nations on Earth, planned on dancing, and filmed the result. The above video, the latest in a series of similar videos, is perhaps a dramatic example that humans from all over planet Earth feel a common bond as part of a single species. Happiness is frequently contagious -- few people are able to watch the above video without smiling.
Thank you, Susan W!
Don't miss the outtakes below.
And this interview...

Rethinking Sleep
How often do you find yourself wide awake in the middle of the night unable to fall back to sleep? For millions, this is a nightly occurrence. UGH. Today at 3 AM I had a deep appreciation for that part of our population. There was no hope of going back to bed. So after checking email and editing a project, I began sifting through articles I'd stashed away for FP. The following was one of the best. You, too, may enjoy this very refreshing perspective.
Tonight: BENADRYL®
Sleep well, friends.

Losing Lee
To say that the world has lost a devoted husband, loving father, exceptional attorney and dear friend is clearly inadequate if you knew and loved Lee Benton as we did.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Susan, Tim and Matt during this very difficult time.
Happy times at the Andy Goldsworthy wall at Storm King, New York

Whoa! What fun this would have been! Talk about an up-close-and-personal whale watching encounter!!!
Building better brains!
I began listening to this program while running errands this morning, thought it was fascinating and felt that you, too, might find it interesting. Click below to hear the entire PBS program via their website.
Meanwhile, I think I'll move ahead with yesterday's recommendation.
Listen to the entire program.
Awesome people, amazing animals
What better way to start the day, as I did this morning, than with a link to this series of short clips highlighting events in our insanely wonderful world. Thank you, Andrea!
Cold Away (today)
You wake up with the worst possible sore throat ever and hugely swollen glands.
You know, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that you're in for one horrific, nasty cold, right?
What do you do?
No, really WHAT DO YOU DO?
- Leave it to luck?
- Determine that it's inevitable and simply hunker down for the duration?
No Way!
What is the disclaimer for checking with your personal physician? Read and recite that before proceeding with my recommendation.
I am not your personal physician.
But before anyone could pronounce "cruciferous," my go-to people were telling me to tell FP about those vegetables. And, among many other things, to worry about HRT.
Since discovering this cold remedy two years ago, it has worked wonders for me. And, perhaps, it will for you, too.
Here is the product recommended by my acupuncturist: Health Concerns Cold Away.
And you need to know this: TAKE ALL COLD REMEDIES at the first sign of a cold. Not half way in. Not near the end. AT THE VERY BEGINNING. The instant you sense a cold coming on. Continue if symptoms return.
Trust me, you can nip it.
Remember, I am not a doctor.
Nor do I benefit from anyone's purchase.

Twenty-one tips from Nora Ephron
It would be an interesting exercise to create your own top 21, wouldn't it?
Writer and filmmaker with a genius for humor
Nora Ephron, who died last Tuesday at age 71, was the award-winning screenwriter whose credits include two of my all-time favorites, When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless In Seattle.
