Skunked.
What's the probability that the one day you are just about to pack up your pooch for an under-the-seat flight, he would collide with a skunk? Cabin ready he was not.
I spent the hour I had intended to pack researching preparations and then scrubbing him within an inch of his pint-sized life. The remedy I discovered worked far better than tomato juice had on our other dogs. It had, in fact, totally/amazingly neutralized the odor!
Recipes vary. Here's what worked for us. Well worth noting if you have a bud like Buddy in your life:
- 1 quart hydrogen peroxide (3% strength)
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 teaspoon liquid hand washing soap
Wet down your dog, mix the ingredients in an open container and then slowly pour the mixture over the dog while rubbing it into the fur. Rinse.
No one, not even my seatmate, could sniff out our secret.
ha ha ha..............peeuuuuuuuu!!! And aren't you the smart one!! I haven't heard of this formula before, and nice to know about. We once had a dog skunked and tried the tomato juice bit in the shower.....................................'psycho' scene, for sure....................and not very effective. BB

My vet gave me that recipe when Toast was skunked 11..... (yes, he was hit 11 !!!!) times.....a slow learner.....
BUT , he said 4 TAB of Dawn, everything else being the same.....also, to leave him with the concoction sudsed on his body for 10 minutes.....but then, B and S weigh less .....Anyway, this formula is worth its weight in gold !!!!
(So happy the stewardess didn't know it was reallly YOU , not the dogs !!)
