Lines From My Own Life

Change a few minor details and this is precisely the night-time trip we took several years ago. There was no doubt that all in our tiny, seat-belt-free vehicle would die before reaching our destination six hours away. When we stopped to refuel, I got out of the car and refused to return.

Our group of four backtracked to find a small "hotel/cafe" where we spent the night. Shaking, sobbing and clearly in shock, I was covered with bundles of blankets to offset the chill. I called a friend back home to spread the word about our predicament. Do I credit the remainder of our safe journey to the prayers of those who heard our news? Absolutely.

And, yet, I love that place.

Such an amazingly magical/colorful country. Would I go back to India again? In a heartbeat. Along with a note to myself: Travel during the day and hold on tight. It's a completely crazy and wonderfully wild ride.

Read on.
