Let's Make a Mexican Pizza

This looks very much like the Taco Bell Mexican pizza to which I periodically succumb while driving down El Camino in Redwood City. I cannot wait to try what looks to be a carbon copy.

Here's the recipe.  It's in the oven right now!

Because I love mixing hot/spicy with cold/bland, I'd top with low-fat sour cream and guacamole when serving. And I might beef up the toppings. Who needs to measure?

The Only Response is Gratefulness

From Sally.

DO NOT MISS THIS.  And, Sally, how wonderful that you're home and recovering.

This could be one of those messages that we all should watch every day to appreciate what we have, what we enjoy, what we often take for granted.

Thank you, dear friend.

Latest Buzz in the Battle of the Bulge

I'm always skeptical about weight loss programs but this info. is very intriguing. Dr. Oz and researchers speak about an exceptionally successful fat buster. Garcinia Cambogia increased weight loss 2-3 times more than just diet and exercise alone. And there are other remarkable health benefits, as well. VERY, very interesting. Do your own research. Let us know.

One Bite Appetizers and Desserts

Brilliant! One bite is all I ever need. But do I stop there?

Source for spoons. And Amazon.

This recipe is so attractive but it's also labor intensive. I found an easier recipe that accomplishes same thing: one bite lasagne

Two-prong bamboo forks found on Amazon.

Finally, the simplest solution of all: Make a large batch of your favorite food. Fill the spoons. Call it a party!  Pure genius.

Fennel, Arugula and Green Apple Salad

We had this salad tonight. It was crisp, crunchy and flavor-filled. Our arugula is almost gone from the garden so we added watercress to compensate for the shortage. It was the perfect compliment to the salmon from earlier this week. Yes, we had again tonight. And we'll be having it again tomorrow. Love this recipe.

Here's the salad recipe.

Halloween's Just Around the Corner!

And while a little bit of lunacy might be fine, full-on festivities would not. Still, it's great fun to revisit earlier celebrations realizing that we'll soon be beyond this stage!

Revisit the past Halloweens here.

Hoody Tubby Towels

How cute is this?  Wouldn't it be wonderful to have all of your holiday shopping done by Thanksgiving? Yep. I did this once and it was WONDERFUL!

This hooded tubby towel is great for bath, pool, beach, and play. It is wonderful for newborns, but also durable and large enough to last into childhood. It makes a fabulous gift – for baby showers, birthdays, or holidays - because who really needs another big plastic toy?!

From Etsy.

Sesame Salmon with Honey Ginger Glaze

Here's the recipe/scroll down several pages on their site until you reach this picture.

Not only is it this beautiful but it's sooooooo scrumptious.

Here are the modifications I made:

  • I marinated for only two hours, not the recommended time frame. Loved it.
  • We broiled the salmon until it was crisp and brown on top. I then turned off the oven, closed the door and let the salmon continue to cook without additional heat. It was perfect. So moist and flavorful.
  • We poured the glaze over the fish, then scattered scallions and sesame seeds without additional broiling.

A wonderful dish to add to your repertoire during salmon season.

The Truth About Aging

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD.

WELL . . . YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.

MY NAME IS ALICE, AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST.

I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA ON THE WALL, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME. SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 40-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL ...

'YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1967. WHY DO YOU ASK?'

YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!, I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT

SON-OF-A-BITCH

ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH???”

You made my day, Kathi! Toooooo funny.

Awwwwww.

With five rescue dogs in our family, we are enthusiastic supporters of this concept.

You'll love Maddie. What a wonderfully wild idea. And it looks like the book could be a good one for the little ones in your family.

Thanks, GU!  Love it.
